My Story

I am Davida! I am the mother of six beautiful boys! I became a mother at the age of seventeen, months before my high school graduation. The birth of my first son, Allen, came with so many new mother lessons. Unfortunately, encouraging breastfeeding was not one of the new lessons. As I grew into motherhood, I learned a little more but continued to miss the mark in understanding how beneficial, natural breastfeeding would be to my second (Amare) and third (Ace) son’s development. As many new mothers know, we do the best we can with the resources we have. When Ace was born I was provided with a little more knowledge of breastfeeding, but the low milk supply along with late nights and early mornings I decided to give up within a week.

It wasn’t until the birth of my fourth son, Austin, that I decided to take a different approach and stick to it. I watched what I ate and made sure I drank plenty of water to keep up with the milk supply needs. It took me a while to get comfortable and stay motivated with nursing and pumping. I dealt with the struggles of latching and depended on the use of a shield, and suffered from the sore (nipples, breast,) because Austin was eating almost every 2-3 hours and in between that time I would try to pump a little so my husband could feed him.  I used nipple cream to relieve some of the pain and some of the products I used weren't always safe to have on if the baby was due to nurse again.

There were so many times I wanted to give up for various reasons from just simply being tired to being sore and many other things in between. I'm really excited about the Lattation Brand and will have live discussions,  events, and offer products that did and would've helped me during my breastfeeding journey.

What are the benefits of Breastfeeding?

The  benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby

1. Bonding

2. Nutrition

3. Fewer visits to the hospital for an illness (breastmilk contains antibodies that help fight off viruses and bacteria)

4. Help's you lose pregnancy weight (Burn more calories)  😜

5. Intellectual development (for the baby)

6. The return of fertility  is delayed

7. Reduced risk of SIDS

8. Reduces constipation, easy to digest. (I don't recall any of the babies I exclusively breastfed ever being constipated.)😊

9. Convenience (Depends on whom you're asking ) 🤷‍♀️

10.Save's money (No bottles, no warmers, no bottle bags)

Warning!!!!

Bonding with the baby is one of the best benefits of breastfeeding. Although we love this, beware of the attachment baby and Mom can develop which can make it difficult for a sitter when you want to go out for a few hours or just to go to the restroom.

There will be nights when the baby is up and will only go back to sleep if he/she is nursed.

Some babies won't take a bottle if they're only used to nursing directly so give Dad and others a chance to feed the baby by the bottle (with breastmilk inside of course ) from time to time in the early stages.

Mother's, you will get tired and be frustrated, and when this happens just remember the benefits above. There have been plenty of nights where I complain and use a few choice words and then a little light comes on and I remember the benefits.  Cherish this time with your little ones as this stage in their precious lives won't last forever.
